Car importing from Canada

I'm looking at importing a 356 replica (pre 1989 of course) from Canada. Has anybody else done this? Is it the same process as from the US? How much is it?
I want it imported from Canada because of the difference in the dollar is the US.
Thanks for your help!

Google shippers then ask them, they do it all the time
here's one http://www.exship.com/contact_us.aspx?#contact_information
you pay shippers then Australia fees GST PLUS TAXES , washing etc

Just be careful you get the company you go with to quote you ALL the costs as some of them add on other fees you were not expecting. It is usually something to do with admin and they only quoted the shipping price.

356 has a shorter wheelbase than the Beetle. You won't be able to register a replica with a shortened pan. I think some are spaceframe chassis like Cobra kits. They would require engineers certs & are probably too modern to import. Just went through this same exercise with a SWB Manx.

Thanks for your help guys. As long as the car is 25 years or older, it will be ok. I've been doing research for a few years now, and have spoken to people who have successfully registered a replica. But, yes it will require an engineers cert.

i Bought a Chrysler form Canada last year. It ended up being cheaper to have it shipped to america and going from there. I was told that from Canada the car has to have its own container not shared. I use Foytt Shipping contact 0423223912. Rob

Make sure you have all import paperwork correct BEFORE you do anything otherwise you WILL have major problems
Check with Dept of transport and infrastructure, I think thats what they are called this week, in Canberra
