T3 auto trans hunting problem fixed

It's been 6 years with this issue. Mainly up hills then as the trike slowed to about 60 kph it would kickdown then up and down so quickly.

While the ea81 was out of the trike the auto was extracted also and given to an auto trans mob. They reported it was very clean inside, no adjustments necessary and all seals and gaskets particularly the one between the trans and diff were replaced.

I recently read somewhere that the electrical kickdown switch should be at the end of the accelerator/throttle. Mine wasnt. My fault. It was about half way. Meaning both the vacuum kickdown (via solonoid) and electrical kickdown were competing with each other.
A test ride today found it worked perfectly with only a slight adjustment with the vacuum solonoid screw to achieve a higher kickdown than what I had.
Hope this helps others with this annoying hunting issue.

Don't understand what your saying about your electric kick down switch being only half way - do you mean the switch was being closed at half throttle position ? If so, how did you manage to get the throttle to open further after closing the switch. You are correct to have the switch closing only at full throttle. Most normal driving habits it would be rare to even hit full throttle, so your Trans would just downshift based on what your throttle pressure verses what the Governor Valve is doing.

thanks Nb

My electric kickdown switch was on a spring. Such was the set up for my trike. As I said it was my fault. The original set up with 1916 twin carb was that the main throttle arm would hit the switch at full throttle only. When the ea81 conversion took place I put it on a spring. Spring stretches and switch activates far too early....hence the problem. But full throttle was obtained.
