Can anyone tell me if an '85 T3 Kombi ignition has an accessory position?
TIA

Thanks Mat
Was assuming that. Know of anyone able to modify them or is aftermarket available with accessory.

Not to my knowledge mate, the lock and the electrical switch component are quite specific and pretty impossible to change as far as I'm aware.

Don't perhaps have a part number?

I will have a dig through my stuff, to see if I can find accurate part number.

there are heaps of switches on the market with varying internal configurations. Some claim to have this position & don't actually have it.

They are mainly on overseas item, the accessory position is actually used for seat belt buzzer (I think). You can just wire it to use as accessory in our case.

I have just done this mod to mine, you will need an ignition from the states. It has an extra tang fir the seatbelt warning buzzer system

74 on Super bug switches are the same and have them, it's terminal S
I use it in mine as accessory power for my head unit and power socket

I have found that some aftermarket switches have all of the terminals, but the internal circuitry is wrong, & "s" is not live when the key is inserted.

Yeah it depends which way the switch is orientated when assembled as there is 2 layouts.

The US 71-73 cars with a generator the S terminal is actually a ground when the key is inserted to operate the key in buzzer where as 74 on Alternator cars and 71-73 non US its positive instead.

Its changed by the position of the plastic insulating cap in the center of the ignition switch, on the lower side the bottom of the key barrel presses on it to ground it where as on the top its insulated from that and presses on the center battery wire terminal for a positive instead.

So will the late beetle switch fit my '85 T3?

Oh and also looking for OEM fog light switches JK and Gowesty don't have them!

And equally importantly. Will it fit into any late Beetle column?
Say a Baja running a late 1500 column with the twin stalks?

Dan, yeah they will just need the right switch.
if it's the 72-73 column with the metal casing you need the switch on the right of my pic, if it's a plastic casing column you need the other style.
