Wiper wiring and self park adjustment
Need some help on my wiper wiring. Had a setup installed but the wires burnt up today and nearly set the car on fire.
It is for a 1960 ghia with 12v conversion.
I am going to wire up an old switch to a newer 2 speed wiper motor. Then new 2 speed switch I had in I think is partially toasted now.
So what wires go where from the old style switch attached to the new motor in the wiring diagram?

You need a later switch if you want to run it as a 2 speed motor.
To run as single speed the 53 goes to 54 of the switch and 53a to 54d. I think cos the 54d contact I'm pretty sure is part of the self parking
function when you turn the wiper off.
The earths, 31 & 31b, are the same for single and dual speed motors.

So what I have figured out so far is
Switch 31 ground and bridge to switch 31b
Switch 31b to 31b on motor
Switch 54 to 53 on motor and to fuse box
Switch 54d to 53a on motor
Should I hve a wire joining 31 and 31b on the switch?

That image above worked. But the auto park is in the wrong position. Anyway to adjust it?
The way it is now it will stop in the middle of the arc across the windscreen.

Don't do that or it may not park correctly and damage the switch.
I read it on samba, so it must be correct.

You need to reindex the crank arm on the wiper motor gearbox.
When they parked the crank arm needs to be removed from the wiper motor splined shaft and repositioned with the wiper arms are in the correct spot.

No
You are moving the crank arm on the wiper motor not the wiper arms on the spindle.
Its very easy to do
See on this one how the crank arm is facing 3:00
if you undo the retainer nut and pull it off the splines and put it back on where ever the wipers are in the parked position.

Got a pic of the back of your motor? I'm trying to remember what my old 6V SWF looked like and think the armature was welded to the motor shaft.
The self park mechanism was in the base of the motor housing and used a plunger that would drop into a detent in a wheel. If similar then that's
where you need to look to see if the wheel can be rotated to suit.

Is it one of the can style motors like this with no nut on the crank arm?
that;s probably why it hasnt been done
It can be done with that style but it would mean pulling it apart and reindexing the internal gear.

Should be fairly easy. Place the wipers where they need to be parked and then remove the wiper arms so you can remove the wiper assembly. Now you can
mark the position of the motor armature. Then turn the wiper on and let it auto park. Now mark that point.
Now you can disassemble and with the 2 marked points you can re-index the by just removing the armature with it's gear and then trun the armature to
the new position and re-assemble
