Endfloat - Distributor Driveshat
Using 2 x .6mm (.023") shims I have only .007" endfloat in my driveshat.
It seems that you can only purchase .6mm shims?
The Wilson book states that a minimum of .020" endfloat is necessary, but the Bentley manual does not give any measurement.
Any suggestions please.

Um, so one shim would give you 30thou clearance.
Or you use some 180 wet n dry lubed with WD40 and sand the shims using a figure of 8 motion to give a flat surface.
Beyond that try the UK or USA vendors as they are normally far better stocked than the Oz vendors.

psimitar,
Thanks for taking the time to reply.
I did try and wet and dry the shims, but they are hardened and my fingers are softening.
Managed to change distributors and this gave me the correct clearance.

Cool glad you found a solution. Another option for hardened shims is clamp your grinder in a bench vice and then with a 1mm slitting disc you hold the
shims in a molegrip pliers and use the slit disc as a version of a surface grinder. With a steady hand you can get good results but of course WH&S
would have a field day with such a method being used.

Lot of fuss over a little washer.
I'd rather wear a Beetle out by racing it than by polishing it!
