Ej22 Gen 1 and Gen2.

Could someone please tell me if the early 1992 ej22 gen1 engine could go into a 96 liberty with a gen2 engine as my son's mate has cooked his and seen my spare Baja gen1 engine on the shed floor. Is it only the engine loom that is different?
Cheers.

The easiest way is to change the intake manifold over. Knock sensor/ cam & crank sensors and of course the wiring loom are different.

When I do an install i go through these things-

cam seals
crankshaft/pulley seals
oil pump o-ring
o-ring at rear of rh head/front of lh head
gudgeon pin access plugs front of engine(yes they do leak sometimes)
gudgeon pin access plate o-ring rear of engine
oil separator plate
clean idle control valve
replace vacuum lines on manifold(silicon)

timing belt/water pump if necessary

you don't have to do all this but I find these are the source of some leaks/problems
