lowering questions
Hi all
I have a early model pan which has been converted to a type 3 double swing plate IRS. The beetle body is a 57. the problem I have is a want to lower
the rear by 25-35mm, but the shock tower will hit the trailing arm. I can think of two methods to lower the car:
1. modify the shock tower to clearance it from the trailing arm and weld a strengthening plate to the shock tower(as long I can weld to the cast
steel)
2. cut into the trailing arm and clearance it to allow the shock tower to be lowered, and weld the pocket of the trailing arm.
has anyone got any other suggestions. I do not want to remove the body off the pan.
Cheers
Conrad

Standard method is to cut the shock tower and reinforced it with flat bar that is welded in , need to do it with the trailing arms and spring plates
removed. A few members on here have done the modification.
