Super vs standard brake Master Cylinder
Gday.
I just pulled the brake M/C, and thought I'd just replace it due to age, even though it works OK.
Standard RHD M/C.......$80 from JK.au
Super/1303 RHD M/C........$400!!!!!
Uhhmmmm, well, holy crap!
Since I'm replacing the whole lot, lines and all, has anyone tried to physically bolt up a standard $80 unit into a Super/L Bug?
Has anyone eyeballed them side-to-side?
Thanks in advance.

The standard master cylinder has the mounting holes across the centre and the 1302 on had offset mounting holes, you may get it on but the master will
be on an angle and the nothing else will fit up.
I purchased my last one from Tooley Imports at Hornsby for a reasonable price, but in saying that how much is your life worth? Another option is get
the old one resleeved and kitted at a brake specialist.

Take the MC apart and check the interior bore is in good order. If it is just buy a hining tool for supercheap and a MC rebuild kit. If you have
trouble in Oz then GSF or VeeWee in the UK stock them plus, more than likely, fleabay.
Basically so long as the internal bore isn't damaged then replacing old worn seals works wonders
As for price, yup, as already said it's cos of a) angled mounting lugs and b) the fact that RHD market is far smaller then LHD so hence increased
cost.
YOu could probably buy the $80 MC and fit the innards to your MC and they're just dual circuit 19mm units.
madness is in the eye of the beholder

A quick addition. Wow, has it really been over a year?
DAMN I'm slow!
Anyway, here is a brake M/C off a standard Beetle fitted to a Superbug. I used new lines while I was there coz I preferred that option to trying to
bend 40+ yr old steel lines. If you look at the bottom at the end you can see that with this particular M/C I also need a blanking plug, even though
this is 19mm dual cct like a normal Super M/C it has the fittings for 2 electrical plugs and mine has only one.
It bolted straight up, close up to show the angle of the lines.......
PS: you'll also need to have someone extend the pushrod as well.

What normally goes into the fitting where you have the brake light switch? I use a blank threaded fitting with a ball bearing to act as a blanking
plug.

I fitted a 20.64 MC fro CSP, it came with an adaptor to rotate the MC, It wouldn't be hard to replicate so you can get you MC sitting square or maybe
you could drill new holes in you chassis?

Great idea! Simple and easy, thanks man.
I'll check that out for next time Steve, thanks. I'm still hovering between a 13/16" rebore kitted through the stocker if I ever go 4 big discs in
the future (I had planned to tow through hilly rolling country a fair bit) and something like the CSP deal.

Steve- I haven't had much to do with Supers- don't the M/Cinders have the 2 outlets for lines to go to each front brake?
