6 Volt Starter into 12 Volt Gear Box

Hey Guys,
I'm having trouble seating a starter bush converting the 6volt starter to the 12volt gearbox (the thin bush). It looks like it stops at the end of the machined area in the gearbox but sticks out ~2mm. The 6 volt starter motor sits out from the box and doesn't look like it will bolt up tight.
A few gentle taps but the start bush wont go any further.

The bush was bought locally in Brisbane.

Has anyone else had this problem? Is there a trick? Should the bush be shorter?

Cheers
Mark

I have never used one,
but I believe some are meant to sleeve the starter shaft,
and run in the magnesium.

So you removed the old bush? IIRC it's not a blind hole and is the same diameter it's whole length so should just tap in until flush.
I've done both a std 6v and 12 to 6v conversion bush and not had a problem with either.

Thanks psimitar. Old bush was removed. Seemed like the hole in the gearbox wasn't reemed all the way through and the new bush was longer than the original bush. So trimmed off the excess length, smoothed out the edges, reinstalled and now it all fits.
