might seem dumb question
Ok so not fitting heat exchangers should help to cool the bug/type 3 but by how much? Also with the exchanger fitted, ist it better to wrap to stop
the heat?

id say not due to fact that the air blown over the heat exchangers removes heat from the exhaust and heads.
but i have no data to prove otherwise.

From what I can see on the engine. The heat echangers remove heat and send it to the cabin in Winter, due to the cables operating the flaps to do so.
The heat echangers also remove heat and send it out to the atmospere in Summer, due to the cables operating the flaps to do so. So the heat echangers
can only remove heat, not create it in the engine, it is up to you where you want to send the heat using the heater cables.

If your fitting J Pipes then you wont have any problems, and no heater in winter
If you retain the original heater boxes then they need air to flow through them in order to stop the heat transfer to the cylinder heads, if no air
flow in summer then you will over heat your engine
