Steering Damper


Hi all.
Simple question....
Did all beetles come with steering dampers or were they introduced after a certain year?????

I know that '63 standards didn't have them but the deluxes did.



I read it on samba, so it must be correct.

Sometimes Volkswagen dealers sell spare parts. Amazing isn't it!:lol:

Thanks for the answers....
Would that mean that a beam from a standard would not have the bracket welded on to it for attaching the damper?

The steering damper was added to Australian Beetles in early 1960, at the same time the front anti-sway bar was added.

When the Standard was introduced in 1962, the damper was just one of the many De-Luxe parts left off - like the glovebox lid, screen washer, interior light, horn ring, etc etc.
