1970 VW bug - Ingition Wiring Harness

OK guys, I'm talking about the wiring harness/ switch that sits behind the ignition key assembly. Metal front pressed onto a plastic back which obviously holds the contacts.

Is there a better solution or product than the 'repro' units you can buy off the shelf ?

I've had the original switch fall apart on my car in about Feb15 and replaced it with a unit from Micks Motors in Brisbane. Last month I had that new one fail and had a chat to Mick when I went to purchase a replacement. He said that he didn't have any other switches of better quality so I bought another 1.......at the same time a ordered a second from the UK so that I had a back-up if the same thing happened. Well guess what ???.........I've had to have the second new one replaced today !!!!

The problem is that even the unit from the UK looks to be the same quality as the other 2 that I've had replaced so I don't hold out much hope that this one will last either.

Any suggestions or alternative that others have used at all ?

I recently went thru the same thing. After replacing it 4 times I found out the hard start relay had failed. Haven't had a problem since I changed that. Might be somewhere to start.
