My Battery is old
So I changed my 16 year old tyres on my Beetle. And the mechanic asks - how old is your battery?
Yup, its also 16 years old. Should I change it? If so - whats a good one to get?
I've converted my 1960s Beetle to a 12 volt.

My battery's also about that age. I don't worry about it, but do carry jumper cables and usually only drive to work and back. It's a Super Charge
battery from Super Cheap, but whatever brand you've got now is obviously good so just get another.

I should have mentioned that I'm using a ACDelco sealed battery. Its pretty good. Just wondering if I'm missing something.

A mechanic is not an auto electrician.
If the battery works then keep it. If not buy another AC Delco.

I read it on samba, so it must be correct.
Sometimes Volkswagen dealers sell spare parts. Amazing isn't it!

Nothing wrong with your thinking.
If REALLY worried I would get one of those new electronic jumper packs and keep it in the glove box. Heard good reports about them.

These, I have the MXS 10 bought on special at Repco for $79; never have an issue.
It was one of those weird occasions that I was asking the sales person at repco about them and every customer walking in could overhear the
conversation and all of them swore by these things....

Yeah I'm learning that!! I had my Beetle fixed up and as part of the service I got A@#$% to wire me up a new radio. They wired it up wrong. When I
took it to the auto-electrician he exclaimed did they even read the instructions?

Just fully charge the battery and take it to Beaurepaires, Ultratune etc and they'll load test the battery whilst you wait and show you the actual
readout. It's a 30 second test. Then you'll know for sure if the battery is good, ok for now or knackered.

My problem now is - the mechanic who fitted in it - used a bolt clamp. The bolt can only be undone by a long socket wrench.
I gotta find a battery shop that can help me with that.

Nah, Supercheap deep 13mm socket on a long extension drive. I'm assuming the original clamp band has been replaced by this bolt down affair?
