Battery cover ????
Hi all.
We have a 63 beetle that has been converted to 12volt.
Should there be a cover over the battery to stop it shorting on the seat bottom?
If so what does it look like? any pics?? heading for a road worthy soon...

The best way would be to buy a recessed terminal battery like later VWs have or get a cover from a 1500 Beetle.
I read it on samba, so it must be correct.
Sometimes Volkswagen dealers sell spare parts. Amazing isn't it!

Agree with above, but if you don't need a new battery -
Pictures of correct covers, but a rubber car mat works just as well.

get the later type battery with sunken terminals and a rib on bottom to lock it in place you will need the clamp bracket as well
I have had mine in 65 bug for over 12 years no problems

Yep. I'm using a super cheep clamp on a rubber mat and its doing fine.
If he's really worried, maybe a piece of ply wood may work, or just a late beetle cover.

I use a thick rubber mat to cover it - something which is not flammable and can prevent the battery from shorting on the back seat metal frame.
