Door window scrapers

Right, me and my son are redoing his baja, it's all painted but replacing the window scrapers is a bit of a mystery. The car is a 68 and the doors have been replaced ,the old scrapers got destroyed removing them from the old doors now obviously need renewing but some suppliers only have right hand side and some only left hand side and some have both but confusion reigns as to whether a 68 should have 4 clips or 7 clips holding them in and just to be awkward the doors we have have 9 clip holes!!! The two extra holes appear close to other holes and so I was thinking is this so I could use either the 4 or 7 hole scrapers? The price differences are amazing from as little as $47 each side to $220 a pair and I don't want to order only to find out that I have the wrong ones. Help!!

Hi Barry
well, I don't think it will matter how many clips are on them [I think mine had at least seven, but all the clips usually break off if they are Brazilian...
I ended up gluing mine on with contact adhesive, and that was in 2005...
I have some spare doors in My shed I'll go and count the holes...
I remember one of My doors on My car had been replaced with a new late model door and the inside of the doors was entirely different looking...
although everything I bought for a 68 fitted both doors.. so all the holes were in the correct spots...
7 slots on the outer side and 9 slots on the inside.... on My spare door..

some people have taken the clips off the original german scrapers...

i had some with only a few clips and the scraper wanted to pull out and up with the window every time I wound it up as the clips were too far apart from each other so I say, the more clips the better.

That is what happened to Mine Yogie and the clips just broke off...
it also wrecked the tint on the glass....
so I used Contact Adhesive cement and they are still holding there....
I didn't think it would last this long...
Maybe some liquid polyurethane adhesive??

Another thing I was thinking about was the actual length of the scraper and the size of the surround. Is there any difference in the sizes? I know the early doors had smaller apertures so how does this affect the ,say 4 clip to 7 clip surrounds?

I don't know about the difference in the clips apart from maybe the later models ONLY had a few clips as they were cutting costs....
I would think that all 1968> on would be the same size.... in length etc...
I bought most of My parts from Mick Motors in Brisbane - along with just about every other major VW spare parts business in eastern Australia.. lol..
but they should know what will fit what.... if they are an old established VW parts business...
