Paint Help
Hi All,
I am looking at a few colour choices and wanted to know which one will stand the test of time a little longer.
The colours are; Aubergine Purple seen on Lotus Exige's, Soul red seen on mazda 3's or celestial blue seen on mazda 3 mps's.
I would also like the most "WOW" colour and am open to other colour options as well.
Also which one would hold up better in the sand if I wanted to play about there.

None of them will hold up off road even in sand as two are metalic and the other is pearl.
Chose a solid colour, easier to repair if you get scratches ect

So I have found the factory colour and think it looks better as it is solid so how do I go about sourcing it.

I'd think 2 pack would stand up well to sand. Acrylic not so well. Metallics would require the entire panel resparyed if damage occurred. Wouldn't
matter on what type you used, Acrylic or 2pack.
Factory colour is easiest to use the colour charts on Wolfsburg Wests website. Reason being that VW Oz build sheets were destroyed so you can't get
the original colour from the birth certificate from VW Germany.

I have thought and thought and thought some more and I think that the Aubergine purple would look good because I would only take him to the beach
every now and then so it would be mostly a road car.
Also would it be a good idea to do painted tappet covers and fan shroud or just chrome?

Just a tip, i've heard from a few different people that the chrome'd tin pieces often trap more heat and make the engine run hotter - someone can
confirm that??

just remember if there was a substantial benefit from chroming the tinware they would of come like that as stock.
from what I've read its exactly the opposite it will help contribute to an early engine failure. hence the saying chrome won't get you home.

old post i know but not sure if u sorted it..
chose what ever colour u like it will make no difference as long as you use a decent brand (not super cheap/autobarn stuff)
i did my baja in a 3 layer pearl and used a high end cermiclear, the cerami clear when fully cureded is a highly scratch resistance product... i had
mind for 3 years and may times had branches and other stuff hit it, apart from a couple of rock chips it held up seriously well....
don't use acrylic its weak, only use 2k... no matter what colours you chose the cerami clear will hold up better than another clear or solid
colour..
i used ppgs D8122 ...

Taken just before sale. 3 odd years of abuse and still looked great. Never garaged always lived outside.

Nice car, I have sold my baja and bought a purvis eureka now and I think I have chosen to paint it a metallic teal like the new toyota chr.
