replacing brushes in the starter motor

Hi ,
I removed my Bosch starter ('67 1300 motor) to clean and am now trying to refit the brushes . My issue is that the 4 coil springs that hold the brushes in place are almost impossible to reconnect to the holding tab. Is there a set procedure in doing this task . They came off easy enough and I don't want to damage anything in fitting them back incorrectly . any ideas ?
