Starter problem

Iv'e been driving this around for awhile now, but I want to nip it in the bud.
The starter solenoid clicks, the motor spins, it engages for a second, then lets go and spins. The solenoid remains engaged until I switch off ignition.
The flywheel is fine, no worn or missing teeth.

Any ideas?

Cheers

Yes the overrunning clutch in the bendix drive or wear in the solenoid mechanism.

The teeth on the drive should be 90 degree not angled ,also check your ring gear right around, should be the same on all the teeth.
