Wheel spacers
Hi Dubbers,
I have a 2000 Mk3.5 Golf Cabrio. I want to widen it's stance, so am thinking of putting wheel spacers on.
Does anyone have any thoughts on the subject?

Simplisticly running wider track is better for handling than a narrow track.
So..............
Can you put adapters on for the same wheel?
Adapters bolt to the original brake face and then wheel bolts to that.
As opposed to running long bolts or studs??
How do you plan to cover the wheels?
Have you made fibre glass flares or something?

I've made no plans yet. Am thinking of modest 15mm spacers. I would hope that flares wouldn't be needed for 15mm. |

The other thing to remember is the maximum track for the vehicle allowed for reg'n in NSW.

It has standard wheels. That's all I know.
I have put some new alloys on - don't know about offset. |

Hello there.
This thread is rather old, but what threads on our favourite Australian VW discussion board aren't old.
: (
Spacers, I have run a small 5 mm spacer on the rear of my 66/67 Beetle since 1996.
Type 3 drums.
PCD: 130x5.
The rear wheels - 15/6 Porsche Cookie Cutters.
The offset: 36 mm
Tyre size: 195/60/15.
Lowered rear end... I think half a spline.
The spacers prevented the rear tyres from hitting the inside of the body.
Wheel nut length - perfect.
No accidents.
Unfortunately, not legal in NSW, however legal on race cars in Australia.
The lawyers on favourite board will tell you... NO.
And, I will get a reprimand. : )
That's my spacer story.
So, did you run spacers?
Any pictures of your car?
A water cooled VW... hmmm.
