WTB 68 Glove box knob (or just button) & Window winders
Hello All,
I'm looking for a 68 Glove box knob or just button & Window winders for a Karmann Ghia. I'm not sure if these are Ghia specific or Beetle as
well. Attached are a couple of pics of the types I'm looking for.
Cheers,
Kevin

Cheers. I was hoping to find originals, probably a slim chance but good to know repros are available.

The winders look like the Beetle ones as well. I've been searching for some good originals for some time. The last used pair I saw was on "The
German Junkies" website in the UK. Their website seems to now not be connected but they have a FB page here.
If you find 2 sets, let me know as I would help share postage costs.
Not sure about the repros but the original were metal chrome not plastic. The repro's I know do not have the correct vinyl grain on the black
insert.

I believe the part number is 111 837 579 or 113 837 579.
Search on google shows some on ebay US, but they appear not to be in great condition.

And just to keep my post count high the glovebox knob looks pretty much the same as my '68 Type 1.

Cheers viiking, I'm heading to the UK next month so I might try searching over there, it doesn't seem there are many kicking about in Oz.

"The repro's I know do not have the correct vinyl grain on the black insert."
I purchased some repros in 2016 from Heritage Parts. They have vinyl grain on the insert (not sure if it is "correct" but looks ok to me) and the
chrome part certainly looks and feels like metal, not plastic. The winders appear to be good quality however I have not yet installed them so cannot
say how well they will cope with regular use.
If you have the original black inserts you may well be able to swap them into new winders if the grain is not to your liking. The rivet holding the
knob is easily replaced with a nut and bolt which would be hidden once the winder was installed. And don't forget the plastic 'washers' between the
winder and door trim/card.
I also purchased a new glovebox "button" however it is plain black without the arrow which doesn't look right. Still looking for a new one with the
arrow
Cheers

I know that Wolfsburg West sells the inserts for the ventilation and headlight switches. Maybe you can find a new arrow one and insert into the
Heritage Parts one you have.
