V6 conversion questions
hey
im doing a V6 conversion for my kombi and need to know the following things!:
surge tank- i can get one made by a mate that is the easy part is what is needed at the fuel tank end does another tap need to be put in it for the
return line and if so at what postion of the fuel tank?
are the input shafts on a 2L,1800 and 1700 the same length??? and is it a matter of just taking out the 6 bolts to change bellhousings??? what torque
do them bolts have to be??
thats all i can think of!

Buy the 21st Century Performance book I told you to buy.
what fuel outlets you need where depends on how you set up your system. You need to decide what high pressure pump your running first. Aftermarket
ones are extremely expensive. Std in tank ones are cheap from a wreckers, but need a custom flange made to mount it into.
torque for the bellhousing bolts in given in the VW workshop manual. Do you have one of those? If not you should buy one.

hey
my parents are gonna buy me the book when i complete year 10 (to make me work hard)
is any old high pressure pumps good enough or is there different outputs??? and say i was to map it like ur new setup?

luckly for me all the hard work is done (thanks desert bug) and i have a mate who is a genius at all this stuff he does it for a living!!! im learning
as i go!! the beauty is that i can talk to people about there different theories behind things and there conversions!!!

Hi
Just use a EFI 2L Kombi tank, it already has a swirl pot in it with the fuel return as well, then use a VL turbo inline pump.

Hi
I bought a new brazilian tank, its a peice of crap, its so thin that one hot day it blew up like a 44 gal drum. I just welded some new fittings on the
tank. One is a return from the surge tank, the other from the fuel rail. Leigh on his early tank put the fittings on in the filler neck, Im going to
do the same thing on the filler tube that runs from the filler door to the tank. I also welded a 1/2 outlet on the bottom of the tank, this goes to a
Carter lift pump (no relation) which fills the surge tank, the excess goes back to the tank, then a VL turbo pumps sucks from the bottom of the surge
tank. The lift pump was dearer than the EFI pump.
Im not sure but for bug EFI conversions you may be able buy a tank from a EFI mexican bug.

i have an EFI tank out of a kombi do they have a surge tank in them??? so effectively the VL turbo inline pump is working as a high or low pressure
pump would???

Factory EFI tanks have a swirl pot in them, it keeps a supply of fuel near the outlet.
The VL pump would be your only pump and it would be high pressure.
When I weld outlets on to old tanks, I wseld the fitting on and then drill the hole, otherwise the fuel vapours inside will explode. Anyone with
should be able to weld outlets on for not much money.

If you have a swirl pool / swirl pot in the kombi EFI tank then you don't need a surge tank. Unless you plan on racing.

ok sweet i will just use the EFI fuel tank then!!! thats easily solved!!! will the return line or supply line need to be bigger as it is gravity

Just a safety note here.
When welding a fuel tank, wash it out with a good detergent, then fill it with water except for the little bit you're welding. Make sure
it's vented (usually the hole you're putting the fitting on).
This way, there's no danger of igniting the petrol vapors in the tank and not being able to finish the job because you're dead...
(Standard Boilermaker methods)
