Golf Turned into a Boat
Hi I am new here i am hoping this is the right forum to post in! Anyway, with recent rain I have come across problems with my little '78 Golf. I
know you guys are more interested in the good old volksies but i was wondering if anyone had ecountered this before. The car was parked outside and
the rain would have been relatively heavy, no windows open, and no obvious dripping, but water was getting in (i had about half a bucket of water to
scoop out that night). The major amount of water came in the rear passenger floor pan area (so pooled up because of the floor plan design, seperates
back to front with a saddle) The water is most definetly getting in the back but i dont know how? I am extremely confused so if anyone can help me
that be great! And this forum looks pretty awesome!!!

Thanks karmannghia60, I had a look in the rear compartment and it doesnt seem to be coming from the tailgate. Yeah i figured the seals are screwed in
the heater or something like that. The other day it rained and it was sitting still i checked the floor and there wasnt any water in the carpet, then
drove it some distance and when i stopped there was water, so had to bail it out last night, i have resorted to the fact i cant drive it in the rain,
and its in the shed. The next thing will be is to get to the Heater, anyone got a Haynes Manual handy for a '78 Golf ?

have a look at the front and rear window rubbers as mine still does this.
check for rust around the seals especially on the hatch,( the hatch window glass that is).
if its still the original seals spend the money to change them and that way you can check it all properly for rust

The manual could be very useful, thing is i looking to buy one! If anyone wants to sell theirs that be great! The car is a '78 GLD (that is
diesel). As for all the original seals around the windows is there anyway to test them without pulling them off first? Cos as far as i can see there
isnt any water getting in around the windows from the inside, and i dont want to do something i dont have to do.

Yeah that is the problem. It has been out in the rain before, it makes no sense for it to be coming in on any of the window or door seals, simply
because i have no drips (I have sat in the car when it has been raining, no dripping sounds except for in the passenger front door which is unrelated)
It is entering some other way. Which i am yet to find out!

Problem solved itself! It not happening anymore which is a relief. Whatever the gap was for that leak it is now closed over i spose.
