'64 notch now my new toy

Saw this on the forum and couldnt pass it up. Round trip to Melb in two days to tow it home. Now in the process of re-assembling the 1641 engine that came with it. The original carbs are in bits, good alternatives ??? I have a set of 44 idf webbers but could be too big. can you still buy kadrons or larger solex ?

Great score man

I saw that for sale and it looked sweet

As for the carbs - if you can get some shortie maniflods go with the 44's. Just put some 32 vents in there and jet em accordingly and it should be sweet.

Yes you can still buy solexes but they are not as good as the IDF's

Steve, I spoke to vintage about kitting the carbs and was shown one they rebuilt for a customer. They used the parts from 4 different carbs to make one good one. If the IDFs will work that makes them easier and probably better.

I have cleaned up the heads and case. bottom end looks ok. There is evidence of a small leak on one of the heads where the barrel seats. Will get them checked today.

Got the carbs and I stand corrected, they are 40mm IDFs so they should work a treat. Not bad for free thanks to a good mate. I think he is keener than me to get the notch running !!!!

progress report

engine is now in, required a bit more than first thought. heads bead blasted and rebuilt, new exhaust valves and guide seals. honed cylinders, and re-assembled with new push rod tubes. New fuel pump and empi exhaust (made in taiwan) mufler exits wrong side and fouls on apron... time to break out the mig !!!. Weather permitting will tackle breaks tomorrow, rotors and pads up front...inspect rear and see whats needed. Post some more photos too.
