What Box do I use?

I hope someone can help...
Id like to know if anyone has SUCCESSFULLY converted their original 4 sp Type 1 box for a strong 5 sp box from any other manufacturers. The reason I ask is that Im about to put a strong motor in the old Type 3 and I want a box that will take it. Any suggestions? What am I looking at for a rebuilt Late box?

Yep - either a 901 or 915 Porsche box. 901 from the 911's up to 1969. and 915, I think up to the mid 80's.

Apart from that I would be intersted to hear myself (not having $3000 for a 30 year old porsche gearbox)

Actually, come to think of it, the Porsche salzburg rally beetles in the 70's used a Porsche 914 box (5 sp). Although I havent seen this one done before, there is no reason why it wouldnt work.

Thanks Doug,
Yeah, It thought someone would mention the 901 & 915 boxes first up. The box out of a 914 sounds like a good idea. I wish I could find someone that has done it. Not having a lazy 3000 is a fair point, but I dont know how I would go even FINDING a 901. Anyone got any of these boxes for sale...... anyone?

Thanks David,
Top site. Hmmmmm lots and lots of money for a Porsche G/Box.....
Anyone have an idea how much it would cost to rebuild a late irs box to handle say 150horses? and who can do it?
