i really like mk1s!
i had a mk2 gti which had been fitted with a 1.6 turbo diesel lump, economical and fun to drive :)
but i think vw lost their way a bit with mk3,4 etc......

I had a 92 Aussie spec GTi. Very over-rated in my opinion. Gearbox was utter shite (quite common apparently) and was utterly gutless. Well built, but DULL.
