Tail pipes getting rusted

Hi all,

I only replaced my tail pipes to new shinny ones back in May, and it’s already getting rusted…:cry wondering what will be the cause of that, just want to find out if that’s an indication of something more serious…

Replaced them in May, WOW they usually go rusty in 2 weeks.
Get the german stainless steel ones, expensive but they last, and don't have that stupid whistley exhaust sound.

I had cheap Brazillian ones and they went rusty in about a month, and then a couple of months ago one fell out while Fleur was driving on the freeway and it hit the windscreen of the car behind her.

The German ones were not even twice the price, and it sounds better now with no chirp. :D

Get a rag with some fresh oil on and give them a wipe. It turns the pipes a yellowy colour, but the oil slows down the onset of rust, but Brazilian ones always rust.

had the same with Brazilian rear view mirrors.
LHS is 35 years old, shiny, and German.
RHS is 6 months old, orange, and yep, brazilian.
as far as I'm concerned, Brazilian is only good for one thing. ;)

*shudders*

I was under the impression that genuine VW brazillian stuff was OK but its the aftermarket brazillian stuff is crap.

Hey if you wanna go brazillian I saw an ad on TV for zeet (or something) some new fangled wax, that actually tickles as you rip it off. At least the girls on TV were laughing and I know there's no such thing as false advertising

Were those girls going brazillian on TV.
Didn't your mum never tell you not to watch those kinds of movies! ;)

I thought my tail pipes were just orange colour, you mean they were supposed to be chrome?

I have heard that there are different types of Quality from Brazil...
Original VW quality but lighter metal.
Aftermarket crap that is sold in Australia.
Aftermarket crap that is crappier than the 2nd one.... and probably still imported and sold in Australia..

The brazillian tail pipes do not normally rust until touched by a human hand.. keep them wrapped in a sealed plastic bag and they will not rust.....

You can buy quality Mufflers made in Denmark, so why can't they import danish tail pipes too ???
