The bug is A ok.......

OMG!!!!!! I finally picked it up yesterday, been crusin around in it!!!!! Ok, well it's a 72' model......and I'm in brisvegas.

I love bugs even more now.......*sighs* eveyone was warning me about how hard it would be to drive, it isn't even that bad.....I was totally expecting it to be worse, but I drive it better than I do my mum's new car!!!!

I have a few questions for you guys........I am an amature, i'm having a few teething problems. with the headlights, i pull the button and parkers come on but they don't look very bright, I pull the indicators towards me and they're brighter but they don't stay on.......feeling stupid but I'm just curious about what I'm doing wrong.....I'm a little concerned that the lights might be (is it 6 volt) the ones that aren't that good!!!!!! If so is it expensive to replace.....???

HA....ok another silly question.......how do you take the back seats out. they have dodgy seat covers on and they're tyed underneath......any advice in that respect????

OMG......I love driving it, when I'm not driving it I'm sitting in it......*laughs* photos will hopefully be up soon...

Thanks.....

hey
i would if your not very good electrical get someone to check the wiring out it sounds like the is a shirt out somewhere and/or you bulbs are blown (use Halogen H4 55/60W double step {P45T base})
it sounds like it is a superbug so it is 12 Volts
the back seat the bottom part where u sit on u just pull it up and out (has pins at each end that it falls onto) and with the back part somewhere around the middle should be a 13mm bolt that u simple undo!!
hope u enjoy it i just am learning to drive in my type 3 and lovin it :)
cheers
rhys

to get the back seat out slid your hand down the side of the rear back rest and you will feel a latch, thats how it come out. I love my 71 just make sure you check for rust in front of the heater channels, and keep the engine in good tune as they are known for pulling head studs when abused :)

Just incase...

the lights might be dim because newer cars lights are much brighter, but if you're worried, get it checked out:)

just incase you notice that your interior dash light is a bit dim, try turning the light knob, its a dimmer switch as well!

i didnt find out until i had spent a day fiddling with the wires and bulbs in the dash and then my sister started playing with the knob and told me it worked all of a sudden!!

Get some Halogen bulbs and put a relay and heavier wires between the light switch and the lights. Both high beams and low beams.
Its amazing the difference that this can make. Even worked on 6 volt candles.
Original 6volts lights are so weak that when you turn them on it actually gets darker outside!!:D:D

mmm

Lights..... It don't sound like you have actually turned them on... Is the switch clicking out twice ? If not you are only turning the parkers on.

The dipper switch is the indicator stem. Used for passing and flashing. It activates a relay that will only stay on if it has power to it from the headlight switch. If is is flashing onto high then the fuses are right as is the dipper switch so check you have tha actual healight switch on.

Hey.....Buggy Brad, I'm not that silly!!!!:P

*laughs* I have checked I've pulled them out enough!!!!:P:D

Thanks for the advice everyone........really appriciate it......another couple of questions for you!!!

*laughs* these ones will make you shake your head in shame....

I feeeeeeellllll soooooooo dumb asking this but.......here it goes *laughs*
I CAN'T LOCK THE BONNET OR BOOT!!!!!!
*laughs* yeah.....I'm stupid.........

the lever the guy told me locks the bonnet (in the glove box) doesn't entirely pull up, so I'm thinking that might be it. but that still doesn't help with the boot......

Ok, well now that I'm entirely embaressed and feeling dumb....I'll go....

have a great week guys.....

Kara*
