My daughters computer wont start up.
Press the button, the led flicks on and off, then nuffin.

what he said. look for another button (assuming it's an ATX case) which you mzy be able to press momentarily after you press the first usual
on/off button that's not working.
do NOT leave a cheeseburger in your case either.:jesus

Press the right buttons!
By the sound of it is a power supply problem! If it isn't going into POST then the system is not getting any power....see faulty power supply.
If you disconnect all power from the puter and have a look around the back end of it, where the transformer is at.....have a good smell there.....if
it smells like it is burn't.....go get ya self another PSU! (power supply unit....approx $70)
If it isn't the PSU then it could be a faulty on/off switch.....however very unlikely!

If its a fairly new computer last 2-3 years it probably has an ATX power supply. In which case I reckon its just the fuse. If your keen you can pull
the lid off and replace it, pretty eeasy to see. I cant remeber exactly which type of fuse they take but Jaycar or Dickies would be able to help you
out.
Please **DISCONNECT ** the power before you pull apart the PSU !!!! Trust me its better that way !

Chris,
I dont think it is the power supply - certainly not the fuse in the power supply as you say you get an LED light, ( You should not not under ANY
circumstance take apart the power supply )
Try
1. reseating the add-on cards, memory and checking all cables to drives
2. if that doesn't work remove all cards (not memory) and all cd/floppy/hard drives - make sure you only leave the video card in start her up and
see if you get any activity if you do replace each device 1 at a time until it fails to start
3 if it doesn't start with all the cards out reseat the processor, try again.
4 if it still doesn't start remove all the memory and try - do you get beeps ? do you get any display.
Let us know how you go

Yeah, don't pull a power supply apart, i can still remember how far my mate flew when he got zapped from his. Also if a fuse has blown,
generally its for a reason, like something tripping it therefore just replacing it would fix nothing. Fuses just stop the thing catching fire if
there is a fault (hopefully). Good luck with the computer Chris, fatboy has some good advice.
