Cable Drive Tacho

Probably asked this before, but here we goes again.
I recently bought this cable drive VDO tacho. It has a fitting in the back the same as a normal speedo for a cable drive.
Can anyone help me with what is needed at the motor end to drive this thing. Driven off the oil pump or distrubutor. Do the industrial motors use this sort of set up? Better still point me in the right direction to get the bits.
Formula V guys ??? Anyone?
