My puter is set to automatically change over to daylight savings time
Wish the rest of the clocks in the house were:jesus
I love daylight saving, especially when the weather if fine, so nice to get out into the garden after work, go for a drive and a walk along a beach,
and for you guys it must mean more time out in the shed

Wish QLD would bite the bullet and join the rest of Australia with daylight saving.
I think were more than an hour behind Australia, but I guess that's why it's such a great place to live.
PS: I'm an ex New South Welshmen and know how good daylight saving is.

queensland is not just an hour behind. Its 10 years and 1 hour behind :P
The reason we dont have it in winter is because the kids would be going to school in the dark.

As funny as it may seem I think that is the real reason. I reckon the farmers could just set their alarms 1 hour forward at the same time they set the
time forward. Dont know why the whole state misses out because of one occupation.
Or maybe us southerners just need to make the most of what we got (the warm weather) while we have it.

The unfortunate answer is that although I can skew the board's time by x seconds, this will stuff everyone up, particularly our non-DST and
non-AEST readers (ie those in the UK).
So unfortunately, the answer for people in daylight savings time zones, yes, you need to pretend to be in New Calendonia.

now let me get this right...u all like having to change ur clocks by 1 hr twice a year...get over it.. its always sunny here... Us in the stoneage???
Daylight savings sucks and has always sucked...
and the cows can go milk themselves ....
time is not a measure of how much light there really is...is is a system so that everyone rocks up to stuff at the same time....sure origonally it was
to do with the sun..but now it is not.
I recon it should be the same time everywhere at once....swatch have the right idea:thumb
lol:P..it is really early in the morning and it is dark

hate it
i`m with DoNkEy it sucks big time ... up here in the top of queensland in the mid summer it does not get dark untill 8.oopm... then combine that with
the fact that you work outside untill you can not see then add daylite saving you don`t go to bed untill 12.00 .the kids have to go to bed with the
sun still shining ...try explaining that to a kid :puke

Actually, the more north you get, the less of a problem DST is to the average person who works outside.
Here's the twilight figures (ie the terminator has just arrived, what most people would call pre-dawn where the sky is just starting to turn from
black to a dusky dark blue) for Hobart and Cairns, without DST:
Without DST, Dec 21 (summer solstice in AU this year)
Place Sunrise Sunset
Hobart 03.53 20.24
Cairns 05.16 19.13
Cairns goes dark literally at 7.13 pm, so by 7.30 pm, it is completely dark. If you're playing golf, it would be unplayable from about 6.30 pm
onwards without DST in Cairns.
With DST, Dec 21 (summer solstice in AU this year (winter solstice is Dec 22 in the US)):
Place Sunrise Sunset
Hobart 04.53 21.24
Cairns 06.16 20.13
In winter solstice (June 21 this year), Cairns's sunrise time is 06.21.
So arguments against DST based upon hours you can do stuff without artificial light is pure rubbish, particularly the further north you go. Always has
been, always will be.

Here's the terminator
I grabbed this from Astronomy Picture of the Day:
http://antwrp.gsfc.nasa.gov/apod/ap030424.html
The picture below is that of the terminator, which softly delinates areas where the sun is visible (daylight) and those where it is not (night).
Twilight is towards the left hand side. You can see it sort of fades in. "Dawn" is when you can actually see the sun, which is usually about
20-30 minutes later.

hah. go to sweden or norway. then you will find out how little daylight savings matters. in winter it's always dark...summer it's always
light (or is it the other way aroung ) |
