I don't even remember seeing a kit car

Its got to be a Brazilian VW right?
Think I've seen those headlights on a Brazilian hatch!

Barry,

They are ligit all right! Brasilian creation with a mix of Type 3 and Type 411 parts.

http://www.vwsp2.com.br/en/history/

They also come in sedan and squareback I think:-

Personally I think they look similar to a Jensen Incerceptor which was a real monster from the UK:-

From the link that Baz posted:
Quote:

The VW SP2 was developed in 1970. The stylists worked under the direction of Senor Schiemann and Rudolf Leiding, one of VW’s most dynamic leaders in the 1970s. Later that year, the stylists completed a full-scale plaster of the new car. Leiding approved the building of a running car for display at a German Trade Show in march 1971. It attracted so much attention, that it was tooled for production. The German magazine Hobby labeled the SP-2 the "The most beautiful Volkswagen in the world.” Shortly thereafter, Leiding took office as CEO of VW – did his beautiful SP-2 have anything to do with his promotion? There is still no consensus on what’s behind the unusual model name – SP-2. However, many suggest that it comes from the German initials of “Sport-Prototyp” (or sport prototype). The first SP produced was named SP-1, the SP-2 was born a few months later with a more powerful engine. Production ended in 1976.

Interesting stuff - I've never heard of it before. I guess VW have been building 'supercars' for longer than most of us realised. :thumb

I lived in Brazil from '90 to '94, but I don't remember seeing and SP2 in that time; there must have been few produced. Lots of kit cars, 'though, including spyder replicars, Ferrari Daytona styles etc.

Why in the world wasn't the SP2 sold world wide in RHD & LHD????
