generator/fan removed

I have removed the generator and the fan , but I forgot to mark its original position on the fan housing. When I take a look at the fan coverplate I see a 1/2" wide - 3" long duct. What should be the direction (position) of the duct after install the generator/fan to the fan housing??

The slot should face downward
