DO I nEED TO DISPLAY TWO REGO PLATES?

I have been told that in NSW if you have a rear number plate and a front one that that is legal. Is this true?

I think in NSW presently you only need a rear number plate, as I have had several buses registered with only the rear, and still only display it in the windscreen, BUT not sure anymore, will ask my police friends...

Though if you only have a rear number plate the police are more likely to notice you so make sure everything is up to scratch otherwise expect some attention.

I thought in NSW you only needed one, until I was fined for only having one !!!
I have been driving my Falcon for over 2 years with only the rear plate, 1 fine is not bad :thumb . Still illegal though ;)

in nsw you have always needed to display both front and rear plates. it is an offence to have either missing. fines and lose of points (as is everything)

it is only in hte last few years that they have really cracked down due to the potential of more revenue through cameras.

Hmmm, I've not displayed a front plate on several of my buses and once when pulled over for a joint police and RTA vehicle check the police officer argued that i needed one but the RTA inspector said no, as long as the rear is displayed clearly...they have always passed rego with only one, and more recently a blue slip with only one, BUT I have been wrong once or twice in my life...(the yoot has the front plate on the dash at the moment, dont want to drill holes in the new bumper)

I am pretty sure that you need both plates in QLD, as a very upset police man pulled me over at mooloolaba for not having one on the front of my HQ kinga. :(

No Pics from the front please - rear only -

I believe that We have to show two plates as a local with a showy sports car didn't have one for a while.... until they caught up with Him....
You can now have the smaller front plate, so I don't believe they will ever have automatic speed cameras taking pics of the front..
I did hear - that it is illegal for them to take a photo of the person driving a car without His consent... so they always take pics from the rear.... makes sense!!

In Victoria it is a definite front and rear plates, unless you have a Veteran (Pre 1919 Vehicle) on Club Permit plates.

In NSW you need 2 plates issued by the RTA to be legal.
The small plates that you on the front of rice racers & hot rods dont mean a thing if it is not issued by the RTA forget it.
I got pulled over by plod in my manx after a day on the sand dunes where the front plate got destroyed and without a quick bit of talk & plod realising I wasnt a 17 year old that all of the above is correct. :thumb

Here in S.A you need both plates and the cameras take your pic from the rear or the front, that is why they want bikes to have plates on the front so they can identifiy them when there photo is taken from the front.

I heard they wanted to do that, but it will never happen. There is nowhere to put a front number plate on a bike. At least there isn't on my bike.

I ran a rear plate only for 10 years, then one day stopping for milk at a service station I come out to find a cop car parked next to me, $67 fine.
Whilst he was writing the ticket , 2 WRX's went flying past at warp speed racing each other & he didn't even look up............makes u wonder whats really significant huh?

Ring the RTA if you get pinged by the cops.

They will send you it in writing that if you don't have a factory mount on the front you don't need one. Send that in with a polite Piss Off note.

In NSW they can only take your photo from the front if they don't use a flash.

Here in WA they take your pic from the front, so they can blow it up and see who's driving! In the rain they use a red flash (last time I was booked, more than 6 years ago.) They're pretty reasonable, though, for example you can get off a red-light camera when the road surface won't allow you to stop from 60k (in Victoria you're expected to have slowed down enough, even for unmarked roadworks.)
