Very thirsty beetle - Update

Hi Guys,

still using 17.6l/100km fuel.
I had oil level rising in the car - suspect fuel getting in through fuel pump.
I have replaced fuel pump with brand new, the old one didn't seem that should be leaking.

Have been watching oil level, and noticed it rising again....fuel getting in, how?, where? carby? (carby has new gaskets diaphrames).

Any ideas, please, I have to fix that!
Jack.

If it is not leaking in the fuel pump the ONLY other way i can think of is buy a stuck needle and seat. And leaking into the cylinders that way.
Do you get a buff of white(? - not oil) smoke on start up??

It is the only other place where it come in contact.

Do you have a spare carb you can wack on??

Thanks for your reply.
I don't get white smoke on startup, when revved I get black smoke.

You mean the needle and seat where the float is?, I checked that, seems to be moving freely and shutting the flow of the petrol.

I have a new one, will replace it.

What should the level of petrol be measuring from the top of the carby?

Another carby would be good to fit, even just to check, I haven't got one thou.
Thanks, Jack.

Update
I pulled the carby apart again, found that the choke butterfly has got some spots where it does not turn freely in the brass bushing, that could cause the car running rich if butterfly wasn't in the upright possition when the car worm.
Getting that fixed, will see if solves the problem.

white smoke on start

what does it means? i thought it might had something to do with worn out piston rings/??

what does fuel economy has to do with it?
i get a pretty big cloud if white smoke on start (even after warm up and shut down for about 10 min.)
