Importing Infomation and Tips

Is it cheaper to import from US or UK?

How much is duty?

Im thinking of importing a KW Coilover Suspension Kit for the Audi considering it will weigh a bit do u think that if I allow $500 for freight that will be enough?

How do u guys recommend?

Cheers

If you know the size and weight you can get some quotes from a local shipping company, they will usually give you the quotes in your currency too. (and may be cheaper)
Check your customs website for duty, that's where I found out how much my duty was going to be.

Hey, Im shipping in some seat material for my GTI from England and I rang customs for the low down (this vernacular, as it turns out, is apt)

When it lands, you pay 15% of its cost (ie what it cost you to buy+tax+shipping), then once that is sorted, you pay GST on that total amount! (No wonder we are expecting a record surplus)

Does this help? Bear in mind that the UK pence vs Aus dollar is now close to .43, which is as good as it gets! Not a bad time to buy!

Tax and Duty depend on cost of item as well as size and type! I have paid tax and duty on my airbags and wheels, but steering wheel, badges, fender poles etc, i havent paid anything other than the cost of item and shipping!

It also depends on how it is shipped here, if it is sent by courier, and it is under AUD $250, there is no duty. this is extended to AUD $1000 if it comes by sea (post)

Costa, Wait until Johnny Howard and George Bush sign the free trade agreement. This will get rid of the duty element (hopefully!)

Sometimes its cheaper to go there and get it yourself!!

Cheers

Steve
