Defensive Driver Training
I went on a Defensive Driver training course today YEAH HAR had a BALL.... and learnt a few things as well.. .
I took my 65 ORange SMMMMMOOOOOOTHHHHHiiiEEEEEEEEEE and learnt a whole lot of things it can do,,,,, thought i was reasonable driver before but
hey it was good to listen n learn something new....
Most of the cars had ABS n all that modern equipement didnt need it ... just thought bout driving
and actually looking at the GAP u wanted to put the car into
If you get the oportunity DOIT. might save yrself.

I think it was about $250 mormally but my company paid so i pretty sure they got it for a bout 180 or so.
Yep went in the Beetle and nothing i couldnt do that the others were doing.
We had all age groups there as well from P platers to well me... the young girl P plater had never actually slammed on her brakes and seen what
the car did under a skid. I am sure she learnt heaps.

Now you need to buy a course for #1  son. I bought 2 of my nephews a course for their 17th birthdays, only 1 nephew to go and then its my sons
turn. Did you do it with Ian Luff? Thats who I have sent my nephews to.

Steve # 1 did the Ian Luffs course bout 12 months ago.
No we did Jim Murcott training course out at Quakers Hill in a large hard stand car park that used to be the old Naval Base.
I think the max speed we did was about 70 Klms

well when your a ford man behind your VW jacket its good to give them bloody hell!!! but when we inquired about it all they said cause there is skid
pans high speed cornering braking etc then they wouldnt recommend the use of any other cars cause it can brake stuff!!!
but they do turn the ABS off !!!

I did the basic Murcott course. Learnt a lot.
I bought my sister a driving course for Christmas because I just knew she'd be a crap driver. Strangely enough she just about wrot off mums car
the day I bought the course.
I did the course with her. I've always been a driving enthusiast and I like reading articles on techniques and seating positions etc. However I
learnt a hell of a lot. At least half of the course was in the lecture room. They has so many good ideas for safe driving and they really rammed home
the importance of maintaining your tyre pressures and not having loose things in the cabin of your car.
Well worth while. Think how much time you spend on the road each year. One of these couses could definately save your life.

Slightly off-topic, but I have done a couple of courses and they are good fun and may be good for road safety Having said that, we all like a hoon but
I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND that a 'skills acquisition' course NOT BE taken by new drivers as it instills a feeling of false confidence,
leading to a higher rate of accidents. Peter Finlay has a very well-balanced course, imo, with a high concentration of classroom/attitudinal training,
not race-track

Dave, I think you should now do the high performance course so next time the company sends us out to have some fun at the gocarts, like last weekend
you might not look so much like "driving miss Daisy".......

Yeah, licencing doesn't really teach you much. That's why doing some-post licence trainig is a good thing

I completed a defensive driving course in Melbourne with AAMI. I've been driving about 4 years already when i did it compared to mostly P platers
on that wet wet day. To be honest, that course was best for freshies (not that i'm the next Skaife or anything) but I do know my car (well,
mum's Pulsar SSS) and how it brakes and handles. It mainly consisted of emergency braking from different distances from the cones to gauge how
much speed and reactin time plays a part in braking distance. We didn't get over 60kph for more than 5 seconds... yes, I still knocked over my
fair share of cones... Like the other courses, half of the day was theory which was interesting
...and Robert's ya father's brother...
