flasher unit or crossed wires?
as if i didnt have enough problems with my bug, now everytime i switch on the blinkers it blows a fuse!
ive disconnected and cleaned all the connections to the flasher unit, and tried wiggling around the mess of wires that are bunched into the
steering/ignition, but the idiot that put on the boss kit in my car did it up with a rattle gun ( GRRRRRRRR! ) so i cant take it off and actually get into the connectors at the wheel as yet. when i did the above,
it worked fine for 2 days and then kaput again! my bf thinks it might be the flasher unit but im not so sure because when the blinkers work, they
work!
my bf put in a new stereo for me 2 weeks ago and we had a few problems with that but they are all fixed and im hoping that this is not the source of
the problem (they arent on the same circuit right?)
anyone got any ideas on how i can check to see that the unit is fine/connections are fine and such? im good with a multimeter and pretty handy.
and if this is all just not going well, and i start to pull my hair out, anyone know of an auto electrician in the brisbane area who will look over
the electrics and fix/replace for under $150 cos i have to get this bug to melb and back in a weeks time (or anyone thats good with electrics who
wouldnt mind looking it over and having a studious observer for a good price?)
sorry for the long winded thread but im getting to my wits end! Muchly appreciated! |

Starbuggy, still sounds like a crook earth somewhere as was mentioned in the previous posts (re fuel sender).
Seeing you've checked the other connections, try pulling the speedo out again and make sure all the earth leads are connected correctly, and
follow them to make sure they connect fine onto the front panel somewhere.
Still look yourself first, but otherwise Mick Motors may be able to help, not too far from you.

update....
the blinkers go boom when you are braking, but the brake lights still work when you press the brake...
Still a bad earth or something more sinister? |

has anybody pulled any of the indicators out ? I had a problem with mine blowing fuses and found one of the wires to one of the back indicators was
shorting on the body when it was all screwed together. When the indicator was in pieces it worked fine but as soon as it was all together it was
blowing fuses.

mmm
The problem is that it is a 30 year old car with 30 years worth of people playing with it.
If you get stuck I will fix it for you. Just drop me a U2U and I will send you a phone number and we can hook up a time. As for cost I reckon I can
fix it for the cost of an Aussieveedubbers.com forum sticker and throw is a free one Now you can beat that for a deal :thumb:thumb You get blinkers and a free sticker
