Helli Coils


2ltr Kombi,, one of the manifold studs has pulled out. The motor is out on the floor. Want to know whats best thing to do and how to go about it. It s the top stud above No4 so you can see both ends of hole. Helli coils ? do you need any thread left with these? and how to do it. Or case savers ? Please,,, I'm getting peved... Steve:bounce

Just a thought, on another forum, a boxer BMW one, it was suggested to use a helicoil first as they use less of the surrounding structure than a timesert. If and when the helicoil dies then you still have enough alloy left to use a timesert. If the timesert dies.... well you are screwed.....If the threads are lubed and not tightened with a bloody big grip the helicoil should work fine.

Ive not used a timesert, Ive used a number of helicoils and found them to work well.

My opinion and worth what you paid for it:D

& the system I got to repair a spark plug thread, which was "cheap" & readily available from CBC Bearings, was called Recoil, similar to Helicoil , to find out your local distriutor phone

I have had a time sert put in.
Quick and easy

From what i have read a lot of racers have new heads done straight away with time serts.

I dont think there is a chance of the time sert dieing
I would (did) just go with that one.
