Miss fire
Iam am having problems with the little 1776. under more than 1/2 throttle it develops a miss(including backfiring and loss of power). Its not all the
time, just every now and then. I gave the mechanic a call and he said probably the plugs getting oiled up. should check this out, if its no those
either leads or main jets?
Now how do i tell if the plugs are being oiled up, as it only happens now and then?
whats the best way to check the leads are good?
and how do i remove jets from a 40mm dells?

I would go the electrical route first.
Carbs would be a blocked idle jet and that would be more of a "pop or sneeze" at lower revs.
Sounds more coil/condenser/points/cap related.
How old is the coil?
Condenser??
If you have copper leads (VW) they should be good. Just make sure they are firmly pushed on.
If they are silicon - put them in the bin and get some propper dub ones

Does it burn oil? If not then it's probably not oil fouling the plugs.
Being intermittent I would think it's probably electrical. Check your whole ignition system, coil, points, dist cap, rotor, condenser and leads.
You can check your leads by looking for cracks, cuts, old age etc. You can test your leads for ohms resistance with a multimeter, don't know how
much resistance off hand but it shouldn't be too much.

it had new plugs and points(009) about 200km ago, but told that iridium (?) plugs may fix the problem. I do run silicon leads, and also a rev limiting
rotor button. Hva to check leads and c what they are like. |

Just cause you changed points do think it fixed anything.
I know it is a crap quality picture but the top points is the OLD ones. Look at the tension in the bottom NEW points.
Ummm.... guess what. I had a few backfires and missing.
Go over the whole system again. Something is obviously wrong.
As for silicon leads the main reason i do not like them is the crap connection on to the plug is a slip over the screw on connection. The VW copper
ones do not use the screw on connector and click/spring tension on.
The fact it is backfiring and missing and not just missing makes me think points, coil or condenser.
These things can change the timing.
Plugs and leads would only make it miss.
Could also be the dizzy. Centrif thingy may have stuffed up

My guess is it's the rev limiting rotor button. I've heard bad reports about these in the past.
