228mm clutch onto 1800 flywheel
hey guys
just wondering if the 2L 228mm clutch will fit onto the 1800 flywheel?

Hi
1800s have either a 210 or 215 mm flywheel so a 228 wont fit. Why do you ask?

the flywheel to fit my V6 was cut to a 1800 size!!! damn know i need a new flywheel cut anyone got a 2L flywheel they want to give me?

ok
when i brought this engine and conversion stuff off a mate he had everything made to mate it up with a 1800/1600 gearbox.
i have been told i will need a 228mm clutch for the V6 that im using.
As steve said the flywheel wont accept the 228mm so i need a flywheel machined to fit onto the holden motor and accept the 228mm clutch etc
do u understand wes?

Why don't you just use the 215mm 1800 clutch. With a decent pressure plate it will be perfectly capable.
You can use the 215mm clutch with the 2lt gearbox no probs. change bellhousings if you want and then you can go for the more common starter motor.

hey wes
would a 215mm clutch mate up with the 228mm pressure plate alright??
i've gotta get a reduction starter motor and i wont it to be for a 2L bellhousing (incase i beef up the box later on)

If a 228mm clutch doesn't fit in your flywheel, then neither will a 228mm pressure plate. So why would you want a 228mm pressure plate?
If the flywheel is set-up for a 215mm clutch and pressure plate then just use that. Then it would make sense to use an 1800 bellhousing and normal 12V
starter.
Or you can use the 2lt bellhousing and use a 2lt starter which is more expensive. But if your going a hi-torque starter then it's expensive both
ways. Just check the 1800 ring gear is in the right spot to match up to the 2lt starter, which I think it is.
You can run a 2lt gearbox with an 1800 bellhousing and clutch assembly on it.
Or if the fylwheel is a 200mm clutch you could probably use that set-up too. There are heaps of aftermarket clutches and pressure plates for the 200mm
unit.
The 2lt gearbox is a seperate unit to whatever clutch and pressure plate you decide to go with.

kimm garland said i WILL NEED a 228mm clutch its the only one to use unless i go to a hydraulic clutch setup.
ummmmm is it expensive to get a a flywheel matched to fit the V6 motor?
i will also have to use a reduction starter and they are both the same price for a 1800 and 2000 bellhousing!

Hi Rhys
Talk to Race Clutch in Queensland, he made me a 215 for my bug that was softer that the stock 228 that I took out but doesnt slip like the 228. Also
make sure you have proper spigot shaft lenght to get to the pilot bearing.

when changing bellhousings is the input shaft got to be changed to 1800 length and if so whats the differance!?!?!?
what did it cost you steve and what mods for a clutch did u ask for?

Hi
The 1700, 1800 & 2000 motors all had the spigot bearing in the crankshaft, the 1600s had it in the gland nut, so the 1600s needed a shorter imput
shaft.
I think I paid about $500 for mine, give him a call and tell him what you want to do and he will work out an appropriate clutch for your needs.
