Hoodjacks Chrissy special

One of the best Christmas presents you could ever give your Beetle! Hoodjacks prop the top of your Beetle engine lid open for increased air flow and more consistent all-round performance, especially in hot conditions. East DIY installation. Completely removable for security when your Beetle is parked.

I have five or six sets of Hoodjacks cluttering the garage, so out they go for $60. Postage and fitting (Sydney nth suburbs) can be arranged. Enquiries by U2U or (02) 9940 3772.

I have a set of these - paid $75 for mine

BEST THING SINCE GOD INVENTED THE VW

Takes about 1 minute to install or take off.
I only need them for
* looks - hey i like the back open look
* high way (ummmm....hi speed? ) cruising

You get a good 10 degree oil temp reduction

But the biggest plus is the fact that you then have speed clips on the deck lid. Easiest way to work on a motor!!

Cool - didnt know :jesus

As i said - they are the best of several worlds.
I have stock oil cooling and only need more "sometimes"
This gives me that and a stock look when i need it.

Only ONE question - when you gunna make an electric/solenoid version.

Would be cool to be able to open it up whil driving along

Not that i an lazy or nuffin! :D

I thought long and hard about that... using an MX-5 or something electric headlight motor. The edge along the top of the engine lid makes it impossible for the lid to pop straight out... damn!

What if you ground that edge off???

What purpose does it serve???

I would be interested in developing that idea if you are interested?

Yeah, electric Hoodjacks could be done as 'custom modification to individual cars, but it would be just about impossible to do as a 'bolt-on' kit.
Yes, you could grind the edge off, but then you gotta paint etc etc etc

I have them on my car as well, great being able to take the bonnet off to do any work. Very simple and clever design

My only problem is one side is rattling a bit as the pin is smaller than the pin removed.

Any suggestions???

When did you buy your Hoodjacks? Do you have the 'full circle' pins? The last couple of batches I have manufactured have been an improved design of Hoodjack also with a better design of 'R'-pin. I can supply for $10/4 pins

THE DOWNSIDE OF HOODJAX

(apart from the temp going down)
in the last couple of days i have had the most bizarre barrage (no pun intended) of people both known and complete strangers kindly informing me that i've left my bonnet open... :D
standard answers:
"yeah, it's okay it's sposed to be like that."
"it's to let more air in"
"that's not the bonnet"
"hmm.. yes..can I use your toilet?" (i was crazed after a long drive at an ungodly hour of the morning and i was at a servo)
"shit, oops.. no wait.. i thought you meant.. no it's fine."
:D
I'm with blue, 10 - 15 degrees cooler, big bonus on these hot sizzling simmering sticky sunny summery days :thumb

The solution to a rattle isslightly bend (by clamping it in a vice and leaning on it!) the long part of the 'R' pin to make it a tighter fit in the hinge hole. Also, not 'ramming home' the R clip the whole way sometimes helps: ie - allow the clip to 'grab' the hinge

Cheers Mr Cool
I'll go give it a try.
Have had heaps of people coming up concerned that the engine cover is open also. good way to start a conversation.

The main problem I have had is that since I installed them it seems to be raining all the time!!!!

Yeah, when I first started making Hoodjacks (more than 10 years ago) I had people (even a cop once!) just about ramming me off the freeway to tell me "your engine lid is falling off!" This was from VW and non-VW people. Hey, it's nice to know some people give a ****! And yeah, good conversation starter with the ladies...

Hoodjacks

Hello,

Are the hoodjacks adjustable? Can you easily close the engine lid when it rains?

And have you got pictures of them?

Cheers,

Blue65

One other question, will the hoodjacks fit a 1965 Beetle or are they meant for latter models?

Hello are you still around Mister Hoodjacks

Hey there,

Are you still around and do you have a few more copies of your hoodjacks lying around?

I'm living in Melbourne and wondering whether I can buy one off you.

Cheers!

Yes, mr VWCOOL is still here! But I've sold out of Hoodjacks for now. I will do my best to manufacture some more in the next month and put a post here. Stan Pobjoy's Racing Engineering or Vintage VW Supplies may still have some in stock. Thanks for your interest - yes, they fit all models and come off in seconds

if you need comments from another satisfied customer. excellent product. easy to fit, a noticable lowering in engine temp, even without a gauge. they will be added to any car of mine that has more than a standard motor.
henry.

ps. being able to pull the engine lid off when working on the motor saved me many many lumps on the back of the head .
