DIAL UP vs BROADBAND

Who here uses broadband?

What do ya reckon?

I've been contemplating converting to broadband since I started up a consultancy business (doesn't tie up the phone line) but the price and "gaurantee of service" have been the stumbling blocks.

Any thoughts.

i just went from dialup to telstra cable a couple of weeks ago - it is seriously fast!

we have a fast adsl connection at work, but cable creams it.. the other day i downloaded a 27mb file from microsoft in about 20 seconds - i have never seen downloads that quick

i just got an offer yesterday from telstra for free cable installation on 24month plans and $65 per month for unlimited use. Once you go over 10Gb of downloads per month your speed gets limited to 64k for the rest of the month... it's a really good deal, worth looking into

iinet?

yeah. if adsl is your flavour, go with iinet or internode.

keep an eye out for optusnet's new cable plans coming out early next year though ;)

at my work we resell Swiftel its really fast and reliable cheapest plan is $35 per month with 1GB d/l:o.

Best thing about it is the contract is only 3 months longs which gives u an opportunity to dump it or upgrade/just stick to it.

They are from Perth but have offices all over Aus :)

check their plans:

Thanks people.

We've just got satelite (sp) at work and it sh1ts all over my dial up service as far as speed goes.

I'll just have to do some searching for more providers.

Keep them coming.

ATM i use telstra adsl i only get like 500meg a month down load limit but and i think its around $70.

with these compaines swifttel and so on are they adsl?? if so what kind of fee applies for hireing the adsl box thingy ???

the only reason i used ADSL is because the cable line / cable thingy doesnt run in my area :(

Gawd those swiftel plans are good value.
Down here in rural Tassie we have no ADSL access and I use ISDN.
This is only just marginally better than a good diallup connection and costs me about 40 bucks a month with 30 cents/hour/channel (X 2 channel) access charge and 400 Meg/month download limits.
All this just to untie the friggin phone line......Sheesh

I know broadband is VERY FAST, but I cannot afford that sort of money...
I have a seperate phone line for the internet, only around $20 a month and My Son owns the ISP I use so it costs nothing and I'm always connected...
plus 23c a day to connect (phone call)
$65-70-$150 sounds just too expensive...
another phone line is the cheapest way to go... but slow...
