65 Split
Some pics taken today. Next... remove reduction hubs and go lo. Maybe change wheels too. Anyone got a nice set of original 15'' wheels?

mate... that is looking good. the belt came up well huh!
go low... i think it suits the splits soooo well.
robnjo... hte reduction hubs allowed for lower gear ratios so that you could put a lot of weight in 'em. i had 1.9 ton on the weigh bridge at the
tip once and all i had in the back was the little 1200 it came with. had no problem reaching 80klm/h, but couldnt stop for shit with the drums. down
side is the top speed is about 80-90 klm/h. take 'em out and you get more, but you drop about 3inches in the rear, so you have to do some work up
front.

Hey Fish,
Didn't realise you were in the midst of it. Should take some pics. So how much you reckon you're gonna part with? You're IRSing it
aren't you?
They reckon the first time you drive your bus without the hubs, and low, is better than...well, most other things.
Looking forward to the full report mate.
Cheers

robnjo... that figure came about from a tip run. there was just enough room for me. the rest of the bus was filled with wood, rubbish and stuff. i
think a standard bus is around 1300kg. could be wrong but close.
65bus... mine is not irs's, i like swing for some strange reason. but still once you up hte brakes and set them lower they are a lot of fun. and
the cool factor is huge.

hey 65busser
if you go without reduction hubs, the best thing to do is put in a Beetle G'box.
the reduction boxes reverse the direction of rotation.
that is you'll have four reverse gears if you keep the kombi g'box and diff.
get yourself some adapter springplates too, so you can bolt the beetle box virtually straight in.
send pmgbus a u2u about his adapter plates thas he does :thumb:thumb
btw, very nice bus.
next stop, slammsville
Most people seem normal, till you get to know them.

used a straight axle conversion from CBB... wanted to keep swing axle! and a set of his discs on the rear. and got a ball joint disc converted beam
for the front. which we have just finished narrowing. bus has been raised a little now, though. more practical up here in the bush.
and boy would i love to catch up for one of those barbies, but you guys are just too damn far away. i trying to track down the local splitties,
though.

Standard 15's
Mate, I wasn't thinking of 'em then. I take it they're gone?
This was a pic I took on the Tasi trip that I thought you might like.
If you've still got those wheels let me know, thanks mate

Have passed some on(still have some odd ones, and may be able to rake up a set) but kept the best for a spare set for mine. May be able to chase up
more from peterk as he has the odd few. volma1

Brad ,
She is beautiful and a credit to you.
Is the rear bumper the one I sold you?
A workmate saw you on the bridge in Hobart when you where there told me he saw this beautiful kombi and discribed yours. Small world.
Keep up the nice work. Mitchell

Thanks Mitchell,
Yes that is your bumper. I had it straightened, (as much as possible) 'cos it had quite a bit of bog in it. You wouldn't have picked it
would you? I had en early Bay bumper on the bus originally, and the difference in shape between the two is surprising. They look exactly the same at
first, but the Bay bumper is quite straight or square across the back, whereas the splitty bumper curves round the rear end. The fit is so much nicer.
Worked out well in the end. Thanks again mate.

a very generous man everyone..
Thankyou very much dude.
And "The G" survived the mission to QLD very well in deed. i drove from sydney to Burleigh before i realised it was only on 3 cylinders
though...not good for fuel economy...damb leads...
cheers and ill call you in the next couple of days man, im just in the midst of a legal issue, apon the sale of my old beetle as you'll see in
the chitchat area.
