original paint colours


i am trying to oocate the name of the colour that my 73 bus was originally painted in. as far as i can find according to auto colour library my colour is closest to marine blue L54D but this seems to dark. how do i find the correct colour? how do i know if my bus is aust made or os? has any one else got a 'baby blue" colour bus and knows the name/code. thanks, ASTRO BOY

when you say it is to dark i am guessing you mean the colour chip not the colour on the van, this is probelly down to the paint on your kombi fading.

if it is the factory paint it will have lightened up some what no matter how much care it has had, the suns a bitch!!

the other thing you need to think about has the van ever been painted? becasue they mite have used the wrong colour/shade etc and that would throw u out.

have you been able to get a code of your van at all?? that will give u the colour it was from factory.it normaly is behind the front seats some where

i know there is a company in the uk that if you give then the Ch number of you kombi (and i think 5 pounds) they will give you all the details where it was built, colour, who bought it first up, where it first went etc etc.

Big John,

The outside has been repainted but the inside of the doors is original, most paint shops will be able to match it or try Custom Bugs and Buses, Mike should know the colour...:D

We should organise a run to Krispy Kremes while im in Sydney...

There was a colour called flipper blue in your year model, it was very popular in Kombis. it looked like this

thanks for that. it looks very close to mine. do you know what car company brought out that name and by any chance the code??? i was told by somebody that marine and flipper are the same but one is nissan the other vw
