'61 Kombi replacement rear indicator lenses.
I made these for Matt and Antheas' (Mattyler) Kombi as the original ones were stuffed and Anthea was offered some good original ones for $200
each.
The Kombi is now running the clear ones with amber globes. |

Looks neat, has anyone played with the idea of using LED tail lights - you see them on the back of the big Mack trucks etc. HELLA makes them - I do
know they are called 'Combi' lights - most appropriate, i think
Here is some info on them ...
... and a pic

They are pretty cool things to make out of plastic diffusers that go over fluro light tubes. Just use a hole saw and pop in an amber bulb!
Neat inexpensive trick!

Very clever. You could colour them with lense tint if you wanted amber or red.

I've got an LED interior light in the truck. It replaces the 41 mm incandescent "festoon" lamp with a bulb made from a printed circuit
board with three white LEDS, a diode and a resistor (kit from Jaycar). You can't get them assembled, although some other configurations such as
multi-led turn signals are available assembled. Each of the LEDs is 7000 mcd (microCandela ???) in brightness. The end result is about the same
brightness as the $1 incandescent bulb, a much whiter light and should last forever, which is just as well as the replacement bulb cost $35 in parts
(principally the LEDs, at $9.50 a piece).
About the brightest LEDs available are 15000 mcd, but I can't find any available at the moment.
There are PCBs and info. available at Jaycar.
Happy soldering.

Matra got it in one! Fluro diffuser comes in different thicknesses, the 3mm is what I used the other is too thin.
I made the amber lens from a Bay rear combination lens that was broken at the stop/tail light section, and the finished lens even has the Hella symbol
on it.
I found a 15 peice holesaw set (19mm to 125mm) at a Cheap Tools shop for $12 so the lenses were very inexpensive to make. The orange globes have ofset
pins so just file one off and it holds ok with one.
Two Guns, the blue is a Nissan comercial colour.
