Yeah, thats what I thought. Can't remember what page I found that on. But to say my face fell off is an understatement :o
I'd also be wanting some serious serious hang and go put under it if I was going to that extent.
"so we're about to do the rear section Mr Gates, anything we should take into consideration?"
"yeah... reckon a G60 could go in there? How about a 993 GT2 donk?"
Kudos to the owner, but also some Ritolin.

the pic is probably the early stage of a complete cut and shut to fit the bus on a 944 pan with all the good bits. it is going to end up with
tiptronic, cliamte control, and an absolute shitload of power. is going to be the ultimate sleeper.
here is one that got carried away though. too many damn windows.
thought it was going to benefit in the wind tunnel.

haha. Naa dude, I think this guy was actually planning on using a carbon fibre inner body (DTM style) and mid mounted McLaren/Mercedes V10.
Whats the story behind the blue one then? Looks interesting. All bus backsides should look like that when open

The blue one was featured in VW Trends a couple of issues ago. Owned by Charlie Slater who Races 993s in the American LeMans Series. His wife uses it
to bus the kids around!! Uses a combination od 993 and 996 parts.
Whilst it is a wild ride it makes you give some thought about the two ends of the scale ($) applied in this hobby of ours and ultimately where the
cost of parts will go.

The guy is restoring this bus

is doing it because 'if I'm correct' is a VERY early 50-51 Barndoor, he works as a panel beater & his boss let him use all the
facilities where he made most of the panels himself
The guy with the blue GT powered bus

wanted something safe & modern (hence the brakes & rollcage) yet with all the style of a splitty... if you can afford it why not?
the Ultimate German Look ??? you decide.

Cam,
I don't know if you guys out in Oz get UltraVW magazine web site here
In there first issue they did a six page feature (inc pics)
The concept was born as a result of Charlie Slater (the guy behind the bus) his wife and kids having a near miss at an intersection with a large
(should read AMERICAN) Chevy pick up, when it ran a red light narrowly missing the VW they were in.
This got Charlie thinking...to cut a long story short...... this bus is the outcome.
It is a scratch built 2"x4" chassis with a 1.75" rollcage, with bus panels fitted around this & Porsche brakes, steering, engine
& transmission that is also tiptronic :o
Here are some of the Porsche bus pictures
from Vintagebus.com.
Heres the Link to the web site of the barn door.
Hope you like the pictures,
Rob.

Why do you guys believe the stuff must stay here what so that we can bitch about some other country taking our bits.Heres a thought maybe if the Oz VW
scene was a bit more open minded and freindlier then we would have more people building shit hot rides like the poms and the Yanks do and not having
to bitch about our parts going overseas and cars etc etc..OPEN YOUR WINGS AND FLY..
