Taking the kombi camping
Ok, so I'm tossing the tribe into the kombi.
I'm planning on going camping to straddie with vw bayside (WHAHOO!!!)
So what I want to know is this.....
* What would you never go camping without...for yourself, your family and your car.
* What is the most usefull thing that you discovered that you needed that you didn't have.
for me it was
myself - dri-z-bone
family - thongs
kombi - dustpan and brush
nifty thing - one of those thingies that plug into your cigarette lighter to inflate air mattresses.
So tell me about your experiences

I have a little stove i bought 20 yrs ago called a Trangia(sp?)
It works on metho. The harder the wind blows the stronger the heat.
You can alway get metho. It is the best way of cooking. Inside - outside - wind - rain.
The other thing is our Atomic cappicino maker. Sits on top of the Trangia.
Nothing better than sitting out in the bush early morn having a cappicino!

1. Duct tape
2. Plastic zip-lock bags.

I packed the family and went camping last week, although havnt got a camper the kombi came in heaps handy. Made a great wind shield for our camp
site, and with the side door swung open most of the time it made a great seat a fantastic tableand an exellent place to lock all ya gear in if you go
off trekking or whatever.
Anyway Id say what I missed most was the aeroguard..so...dont forget it, maybe one of those mozzie candles at night, dunno if they work or not?

Oh yeah I swear by those cookers that blue was talking bout, great for that cuppa. Most of the cooking I did was onopen fire...oh those camp ovens
are fantastic too...can do roasts and stews and whatever ya want in them and they only sell for bout 20 - 30 bucks. Also if kids have bikes and you
can fit em in, pack em too... kids love racing round camp grounds on their bikes.

what to take
We went to Straddie day after boxing day in Bert the Bus. Had one of those Gazebo things beside the Kombi. Was handy having extra tarps to put on
sides and over the roof as it rained. Also do not forget the gas lighter to light the stove. I nabbed the one out of the Kombie and forgot to replace
it and the local store wanted $11 for one! There is a reasonably priced shop just past the Adder Rock camping ground where we stayed. Nice beach.
If you have kids go to Amity Point where they can jump off the jetty. If you want to hire a canoe you have to do it from Point Lookout and then you
can only do guided tours. Hope this helps. Pam and James

1. Definitely a good-sized tarp, even if it is only a cheapie. And pegs, ropes and poles. Probably not the best set-up around, but definitely low-cost
and versatile. :thumb
2. A bucket.
3. 12V Fluorescent Light with plug for the cigarette lighter.
