Standard VW ignition switch V push button type
Have a 75 camper and have already put one new ignition switch in and now it seems on way out. What is the feeling on replacing with a non standard
push button type. Are they more reliable. James

James,
The standard ignition switch should be OK.
If the electrical portion of the switch is failing, I would be checking out what is causing the heavy current load through the switch ie bad earths,
bad starter/solenoid, low battery etc.
You may consider putting a heavy duty relay(not a starter solenoid) at the solenoid to ease the load on the switch.

but u gotta admit a push button one is pretty kool.....if u do do it or get any info onit u'll have to post it up as im just interested on how
people do it

Our first bus had a push button in it from when we first got it.
When we got the one we have now, I wrecked the first one and one of the items I kept was the push button.
When the ignition switch started to go in the new bus I then realised it must be a problem as this was the second bus we had owned and both had the
same problem.
I installed the push button 9 years ago and it is still perfect. One major advantage is if you stall the motor you just hit the button again, you dont
have to turn the key off then back on again.
I personally dont find it a hassle at all.
It was easy to wire up. I just found out which wire went into the ignition switch to give power when it was ready to crank. Then I found the crank
(starter) wire out of the switch and put both of them on the back of the push button.
I put the push button on the left hand side of the dash opposite where the front fresh air fan switch is.
