50's kombi question

I'm buying a 50's (not sure what year) splitty--it's got the small round tail light at the back and semaphores.

It doesn't have an engine but it does have a gearbox. I'm guessing it would be the original 1200 (if that's right for the year?).

My question is, can I put a 1300 engine (from a beetle) onto a 1200 gearbox? Or, how easy is it to put a 1300 gearbox and engine (from beetle) into a 50's kombi? What would you recommend?

Thanks. :bounce

first of all what are you doing with the Kombi full resto or modifying ??

Yes a 1300 engine will fit up to the gearbox. I would leave the gearbox as it is.

Thanks Dave... yes I'll be doing a modification with engine size. Eventually I'd like to put a 2 litre (or at least 1.8 litre) in.. if that's possible somehow. Just for now I want to get it running and registered. So I'll pop the 1300 onto the original gearbox and go from there...

Thanks again! :thumb
