Conrods play
I removed the P&C off the 1835 (which I will be converting to 1776 by the way). I grabbed the end on the conrods and moved it from one side to the
other. There is about a 1mm play. Is this OK? As far as I know, the free play (!) at the crank end should be between 0.1mm & 0.4mm with 0.7mm
being the worn limit. Correct?

0.44mm what? At the end of the conrod or at the crank?

The axial clearance of the conrod on the crank (ie the side-to-side movement) or
'gap' when you push the conrod to one side and measure to the crank should be
0.17 to 0.4 mm 'new' with an outer wear limit of 0.7mm. So is this is what you are referring to yes you are correct!
On the other hand, the movement of the crank in the case is the 'endplay' measurement...
